Active angiogenesis in an extensive arteriovenous vascular malformation: a possible therapeutic target?
نویسندگان
چکیده
V ascular malformations result from the aberrant development of vascular elements during embryogenesis and fetal maturation. Despite apparent endothelial quiescence, some vascular malformations can expand rapidly during adolescence or pregnancy, after a surgical procedure, or in response to trauma. The pathogenesis of vascular malformations is not well clarified, but their formation and progression are closely related to angiogenesis, a complicated network that is closely regulated by many angiogenic factors.

High-Flow Vascular Malformation of Ear: A Case Report
Vascular anomalies are categorized into vascular tumours or vascular malformations on the basis of clinical features and histopathology. The literature regarding high flow arteriovenous malformations of the auricle is rare. A case of a patient clinically diagnosed with an arteriovenous malformation of the external ear and was managed with preoperative embolization, surgical excision and reconst...
متن کاملIncreased expression of urinary matrix metalloproteinases parallels the extent and activity of vascular anomalies.
OBJECTIVE Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and the angiogenic proteins basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) have been implicated in mechanisms of human cancer and metastasis. Assays were conducted on the urine of patients with vascular anomalies (tumors and malformations), relatively common and occasionally life-threatening disorders for which few ...
متن کاملHuge Arteriovenous Malformation of Upper Lip- A Case Report
Introduction: Arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) are uncommon vascular lesions that can arise in any part of the body. Case Report: In this case study, we presented a huge AVM of the upper lip in a 70-year-old man that he noticed since 5years ago with slow growth in this period. Computed tomography angiography revealed a large AVM with feeders from the right...
متن کاملDiffuse Pulmonary Arteriovenous Malformation in Children: Essential Value of Contrast Echocardiography in Diagnosis
Pulmonary arteriovenous malformations (PAVM) are abnormal communications between pulmonary arteries and pulmonary veins, and most commonly congenital in nature. Although rare, it is an important consideration in cyanotic patients of unknown cause. We report 3 cases with diffuse PAVM in children with different clinical manifestations and initial diagnosis was made by transthoracic contrast echoc...
متن کاملOsseous Metaplasia Mimicking Long Bone in Intramuscular Vascular Malformation
We describe a case of intramuscular vascular malformation with extensive ossification within the posterior compartment muscles of leg which grossly mimicked long bone leading to equinus deformity of foot. Phleboliths and calcifications are characteristic of vascular malformations, while massive ossification is rare. To our knowledge, no extensive ossified vascular malformation within the leg mu...
